Our Dutch breeding program includes two varieties – Black and Blues. The genetic base for this herd is mostly built around line breeding of one of the breed’s greatest all-time show winners/sires – Rick Lehmann’s “Percy” buck.
From this tough start, things have improved rapidly. In 2006 I exhibited the Best Opposite Sex rabbit at the National ARBA Youth show in Dallas, Texas out of 220 entries. Early in the year 2008, our Senior Black Herd Sire, “Ricky,” was named Best of Breed and Best In Show at the ARBA Kaw Valley Youth Show. Although one of
the top three most popular of the 47 rabbit breeds,
these charming Dutch rabbits are not the easiest to
raise from a show standpoint. In fact, the very first
rabbit I showed was a Blue Dutch Senior Buck that was
disqualified for a freckle up its nose! And a
little one at that!
